Verizon To Acquire Northcoast Spectrum

Verizon Wireless is close to a deal to acquire almost all of the radio-wave spectrum licenses owned by Northcoast Communications, which is backed by Cablevision Systems Corp. A deal, said be valued at about $700 million, could be announced within days, although the talks are continuing. The new licenses would add critical calling capacity in busy markets where Verizon Wireless already offers service, such as New York, Boston and Minneapolis.
