T-Mobile USA has notified the FCC that it plans to switch technologies for meeting the commission's E-911 mandates for locating wireless users who call 911. The company had already started deploying E-OTD technology, but will now switch to TDOA technology. AT&T Wireless and Cingular both made the same switch months ago, due to failure of E-OTD to meet the government's accuracy requirements. T-Mobile told the FCC it was concerned that manufacturers would not provide adequate support for E-OTD after AT&T and Cingular abandoned the technology.
