Tizen Reaches 1.0, SDK and Source Code Released

Tizen, the standards-based open source mobile platform project backed by Samsung and Intel, has reached 1.0 status. The companies involved in developing the platform have made both the source code and a new software developer kit available for download to those interested. Tizen was last updated to beta status in February. Tizen 1.0 offers mostly stability and performance improvements when compared to the previous release, and also offers updated HTML5, support for Wi-Fi Direct, vibration APIs, points-of-interest support, and map-based searching. The SDK adds a number of new tools, including a new browser-based simulator, OpenGL acceleration, and more templates and debugging tools. Right now, developers can use only Windows or Ubuntu with the source code and SDK, but Tizen says Mac support is coming soon.
