Broadcasters Cease White Space Spectrum Challenge

The National Association of Broadcasters has withdrawn its legal challenge regarding the use of white space spectrum for mobile broadband. The NAB had protested the Federal Communications Commission's 2008 decision to allow white space spectrum to be used for Wi-Fi, citing fears of interference with their broadcast television signals. Now that the FCC has amended the rules for white space spectrum use, the NAB has reconsidered its legal stance. "NAB still has concerns related to possible interference to broadcasting from unlicensed devices, but we felt this petition was no longer necessary," said NAB spokesperson Dennis Wharton. This was the last legal roadblock preventing the use of white space spectrum. Now that it is in the process of being removed, technology utilizing white space spectrum may move forward.
