Motorola V635 Details Surface

The FCC last week approved the Motorola V635, releasing photos and key details in the process. The previously-rumored GSM phone is an upgrade to the V620, adding a color external display, megapixel camera with LED flash, and EDGE high-speed data. Also, a user-changeable outer cover slides off to reveal a TransFlash memory card slot. According to the late-draft user manual submitted to the FCC, the TransFlash memory card can be made accessible to a PC connected via USB as a storage drive, similar to a flash-memory keychain. Like the V620, the V635 includes quad-band GSM, Bluetooth, and video capture.

I have the V635
Hey guys. I'm looking for details on this phone as I have it. I've had it for a while a now actually. It's thicker then the V600 but much lighter. I'm using this phone with TMobile without any problems. I just inserted my SIM card and turned it on no problems. The front of the screen is about 3/4 x 3/4.

Is V635 Class 10 EDGE?
Looked through some material on the FCC web site and the description in gsmarena and saw the phone was listed as being Class 10 GPRS. Does anyone know from any material on the FCC web site if it is also Class 10 EDGE?
The only other phones that are Class 10 GPRS and Class 10 EDGE are the Nokia 6230 (only a tri-band) and the Treo 650.

Does anyone think that it's a little weird to release an update to something that's only been on the market for a VERY short time? I mean the v620 hasn't even hit the US market, and hasn't been out very long in the places it IS in. Why upgrade it so soon? Was the 620 another v600? Is that why it hasn't hit USA? Will the 635 be any better in all reality?
It all just seems a bit strange to me, but I wouldn't doubt it if it popped up in Cingular's lineup, considering their recent additions of 2 other EDGE capable video phones.

Well the FCC only approved it now, so it will take awhile until the phone is actually released. By the way, the V620 and V600 are the same phones...

Hint: BETA testing results... could have been either misread or misconstrued i.e. -- send out the patch... just a thought....

Sorry I have to vent on this one....
I remember the huge V600 hub-bub and too-doo that went on for months and months... I finally got one from cingular the week it came out from them, only to go through 4, yes FOUR defective phones in 6 weeks. Bad luck? Yes. True for every V600? No, but for many. But where is the V600 now? Pulled from the ATT and Cingular shelves in only a short matter of time. (I understand the same was true temporarily for the newer MPX phone too). Now there is the to-die-for RAZR, but at $400+? Give me a break.
I'm no phone expert or carrier employee, just a gadget-centric consumer and the V6XX series phones couldn't have been more of a let down. Too bad Sony Ericsson can't put their feature set in a Moto s...

Waiting for V6xx or Razr/V3 with UMTS
I have a Motorola V710 and use it to surf the web with my PDA over Verizon's 1xRTT network(i.e. Express Network/NationalAccess). The EDGE capability in the V635 will only give me slightly faster data speeds than 1xRTT (100kpbs vs 60kbps with 1xRTT) but that isn't enough to get me to switch. I'll consider switching to Cingular in August, 2005 when my Verizon contract is up to see how far they've come integrating AT&T into their company and to see if they have launched UMTS in the NYC area. For those that don't know, UMTS is the next upgrade to GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks with speeds up to 2mbps and typical speed of 300kbps. Cingular's (formerly AT&T's) upcoming UMTS network and Verizon's EVDO network will be direct competitors. Verizon will b...

generally speaking UMTS phones are much larger than GSM phones. It will probably be a while before any phones that resemble the RAZR will be available on a UMTS network.
TOO BAD...
Moto did not put the vastly superior display that is on the V710 & V3 on this phone. Then it would be nearly perfect! 😳

And also too bad it's the same crap megapixel camera they have on the 710. Plus the same cracking cheap plastic cover as the 600. Such crap.
The display is the same resolution, except its smaller. making it actually appear sharper
