Regional Carriers Debunk AT&T's 700MHz Interference Claims

A consortium of regional wireless network operators, including Cavalier Wireless, C Spire Wireless, Continuum 700, King Street Wireless, MetroPCS, U.S. Cellular, and Vulcan Wireless, today submitted a test report to the Federal Communications Commission that contradicts claims made by AT&T with respect to 700MHz roaming. The companies submitted the report in response to the FCC's call for lower 700MHz device interoperability studies. The report used commercially available AT&T equipment and "conclusively demonstrates that the interference concerns AT&T has alleged as the basis for its use of an essentially proprietary band (Band 17) in the lower 700MHz spectrum, which effectively prevents competitors’ use of lower 700 MHz A Block licenses, are unsupportable." The companies say they performed tests both in the laboratory and in the field, and conclude that "Band Class 12 devices that comply with 3GPP performance specifications would exhibit normal performance in a commercial system deployment using the Lower B and C Blocks." Were AT&T to use Band Class 12 rather than Band Class 17, there would be no interference threats. AT&T hasn't responded publicly to the group's claims.
