Nuance Communications today announced Dragon ID, a new security product that can unlock devices such as smartphones and tablets based on a voiceprint from the owner. Device owners create a password or passphrase using their voice, which can be set to unlock the device or launch a personalized home screen for devices that have multiple users. According to Nuance, its voice biometrics authentication is secure enough that it is used by banks and governments. Dragon ID is being offered directly to makers of Android devices and initially supports English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Nuance said additional languages will become available later this year.
