HTC Drops One ITC Appeal to Concentrate on Others

HTC has dropped an appeal it filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission over a patent claim it initially lost. Originally dating back to May 2010, HTC complained that Apple violated five of its patents. HTC later dropped one of the claims, and the ITC determined Apple wasn't liable for the remaining four. HTC appealed that decision, but today decided to drop it. Instead, HTC is prepared to appeal a recent decision that prevents it from using patents borrowed from Google to sue Apple, as well as appeal a decision the ITC made in December 2011 that says HTC is violating Apple's data tapping patents. Last, HTC must defend itself against new patent claims made by Apple in the previous few months. Today's decision allows HTC to spread its resources over fewer cases.
