Twitter updated its iOS and Android applications today. The updates adds a significant number of new features, many of which center on controlling and customizing notifications. For example, users can now choose to receive notifications from individual Twitter users whenever he or she publishes a tweet. The revised version of Twitter also adds ambient notifications, which will appear briefly at the top of the screen and won't interrupt device owners when they're actually using the Twitter app. The new app also brings with it expanded tweets, which let Twitter users see details regarding links, images, or videos that are embedded in tweets. Other improvements include better autocomplete for user searches; new notifications in the Discover tab; and tappable avatars that will go straight to user profiles. The update inclues bug fixes, performance improvements, password and authentication fixes, support for Hungarian, and other tweaks. The update is a free download from the iTunes app store and is compatible with both the iPhone and iPad. It also works with both Android smartphones and tablets, and can be snagged from the Google Play Store.
