Microsoft Licenses exFAT Patents to RIM

Microsoft today announced that it has signed a patent licensing agreement with Research In Motion. The patents in question pertain to Microsoft's exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table) file system, which allows devices to handle much larger individual files than the previous FAT file system. Microsoft holds a number of patents that cover smartphone technologies. Microsoft has signed licensing agreements with a significant number of Android hardware makers. RIM is the latest smartphone maker to license patents from Microsoft.
