Skype Trialling Video Messaging Service

Skype has begun testing a new feature that lets users record and share video messages with other Skype users. The feature is available to Android, iOS, and Mac devices for the moment and there's no word on if or when the feature will expand to other platforms. According to Skype, those with free accounts will be able to send just 20 video messages, though Skype Premium subscribers ($4.99/month) will be able to send unlimited video messages. The video clips can be up to three minutes in length, and will be delivered whether the recipient is online or offline. The messages can be sent over Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G networks. The quality of the recordings will vary depending on end-user equipment, and will default to the user-facing camera. Skype representatives said that the feature will launch more officially later this year. The trial is available first to users in the U.S. and the U.K. Skype issued a statement late in the day to address concerns about the feature's compatibility with Windows-based devices. "Video Messaging is in early release for testing in several markets for Android, iOS, and Mac with functionality to send and receive video messages," said a Skype spokesperson to Phone Scoop via email. "Users in these markets across all Windows desktop and mobile platforms can receive messages, too. We will have send capability in Windows by end of April. In the meantime, we continue to test this new feature in its early release."

Did anyone else realize that Microsoft the owner of Skype didn't even make this feature available to there own operating system.

Microsoft owns Skype but they left it as a mostly independent subdivision....they own Skype, but they don't really control it.
