Disney today announced they will launch an MVNO using Sprint's network. The company promised to provide a wide range of content and features suited to the needs of families. Disney will also provide their own exclusive handsets, price plans and all aspects of the service other than actual network. Disney hinted at their entry into the wireless market over half a year ago. Despite a long lead time, the company will continue to make preparations throughout 2005 and hold off launching Disney Mobile until sometime in 2006.

Why bother with MVNOs?

Why do carriers let MVNOs exist? If a company can pay one of the big carriers enough money to lease their network in a sense and still turn a profit, the carrier itself could just as easily run its prepaid service and make much more money than just leasing its services...

Don't count on it. It'll still cost you your unborn son/daughter to get your present son/daughter into the parks.

And why not in Sprint's case? Their spectrum holdings are massive (along with Nextel's). It's very easy money for them.
