ARM's Cortex A35 Chip Promises Efficiency Gains

ARM today announced the Cortex A35 CPU, a new processor for high-volume smartphones and embedded devices. The Cortex A35 is a 64-bit application processor that uses ARM's v8-A architecture in a big.LITTLE configuration. ARM says it delivers 20% more power and efficiency when compared to the A7 chip, which the A35 replaces. The A35 uses less than 90mW when operating at 1GHz in a 28nm node. The A35 uses 33% less power than the A53 processor, and requires 25% less real estate. MediaTek said it will integrate the A35 into its own system-on-a-chip designs for phone makers. ARM expects the A35 to ship toward the end of 2016.
