Latest Instagram for Android Borrows the iPhone's 3D Touch Feature

A new version of Instagram for Android phones adds a "peek" function that behaves like 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s. When perusing a large grid of phones, a long-press of a single image will pop that image open into a separate window on top of the others. Users can then choose to like, share, or comment on the photo by sliding their finger to the appropriate button. Haptics let users know when they've successfully used the feature. The iPhone 6s has a special, pressure-sensitive screen to register what Apple calls 3D Touch (more forceful presses of the glass). Instagram for Android mimics this functionality with a simple long press, no fancy screen required. For now, the function is limited to just one area of the Instagram app. Instagram didn't say if it plans to expand this feature. Instagram is free to download from the Google Play Store.
