Facebook Adds Ride Hailing to Messenger

Facebook updated its Messenger app today with the ability to hail rides from select car service providers. The first partner is Uber, but Facebook plans to add others, such as Lyft, soon. The tool makes it possible to request an Uber from within conversations. Messenger can then let your friends know you're on the way. Facebook will pay for the first ride, up to $20. People who already use Uber can link their account to Messenger. Those who don't can sign up for Uber within Messenger itself. Facebook says ride hailing is being tested in a limited scale in the U.S. and will soon see a wider rollout to more locations.
