DoCoMo Adding GSM To Handsets

DoCoMo today announced that within 2 years all its handsets will be GSM compatible. The carrier already uses WCDMA 2100, and will soon launch HSDPA for its 3G network, so recent handsets are compatible with networks abroad. However currently, users can only roam in 3G coverage areas. In the past 6 months, DoCoMo has announced several partnerships that have yielded single chip HSDPA and GSM/EDGE platforms. Its manufacturer partners will be expected to integrate these chips into future handsets so DoCoMo users can roam in a much larger number of countries, most likely including the US.

Sweet Japanese Phones...

GSM will now have more advance phones (if they can be unlocked.) I wonder if they'll be quadband...
I wonder when DoCoMo will come to the states...
