Corning recently unveiled what it calls Vibrant Gorilla Glass, a version of its strengthened glass that can be colored with designs or images. Corning says the new technology can give device makers a wider range of options for creating unique smartphones, tablets, and notebooks. Corning's proprietary process, ink, and equipment can print full-color, high-resolution, photo-quality images. The process is relatively quick and produces less waste than traditional screen printing technologies. Device makers can add gradient colors, company logos, imagery, and decorations to their hardware as a way to differentiate it from competitors. Vibrant Gorilla Glass is already sampling and Corning expects it to ship in volume soon.
