InPhonic Sued Over Rebates

InPhonic, the national wireless distributor which sells phones online under the Wirefly brand, is being sued by the attorney general for the District of Columbia. The suit alleges InPhonic attracts customers with rebates that are difficult or impossible to collect. It was brought after the Better Business Bureau received over 2200 complaints about the company, the majority of which were about rebates or advertising practices. Of the 2200 complaints filed, 1600 or about 75% of them were noted as resolved by InPhonic.

I sell rebates and rebates accessories...

It's interesting that people who wanted free this and free that wonder why they are getting ripped off. Walk into a car lot, tell them that you saw the ad for $3000.00 instant rebate. I am sure the first number you see is #3000.00 dollars more than if you have not mentioned it. Same thing, walk into a car dealership, say you saw the ad for $4000.00 trade in "no matter what condition it's in. TOW IT IN! PUSH IT IN! JUST GET IT IN AND WE'LL GIVE YOU $4000.00 FOR YOUR TRADE IN YES I SAID $4000.00!" As a consumer, I've only been disappointed by Best Buy that's why I'll never buy with rebate in mind with Best Buy. Everone else Compusa and other's were slow but provided the rebates.

😁
Not that I'm a BB afficianado or anything but this whole rebate baloney is what's forcing them to change to instant rebates... If you check their new flyers, a lot of the stuff advertises that now.

I hate complaints on rebates

It's a known fact that most of the people in the US are lazy. Rebates take about 2 minutes to fill out and send in. If a person signs up for a phone and knows that they MUST send in a rebate to collect the rest of the money and ARE aware of the restrictions on it, they have no reason to complaint. You are told about a rebate, you don't compelete it in time, you don't get the money. The company doesn't make it easy but hey, nothing in life is.
I didn't even get ripped off but I'm posting this same message 3 times to prove a point - read the article and understand that mailing in the rebate isn't always just as simple as doing what you were asked no matter how bizarre.

"On example from 20...

Wheres the sign up sheet?

I missed the rebate deadline for 2 razrs $320 total by 2 days. And they said tough luck. Where do I sign up?

Dude,

Read you own message. YOU missed the deadline therefore YOU don't get anything. Had YOU not missed the deadline, then YOU would have a a reason to complain. I mean come on man...accountablity yo.

Quite Frankly the solution is very simple..

The telephone customer service is quite "STUPID". Just tell them its not your fault the postmark got delayed, it is the US Post Office which delayed it.. Generally they will ask you to fax it in again a...

Just Like I Thought!!

🙂 I feel bad for the poor souls that are dealing with the grief of InPhonic's "phantom" rebates but as a rep I have to agree with other reps that saw this coming. Come on, almost every phone they sold was free after rebates even Blackberries and Treos were free. That should seem shady even before you go ask a rep can you match the price. Something I heard way to much thanks to Wirefly but I hope that people learn their lesson from this lawsuit here. You can't always believe what you see, folks. 😉
And it's another friendly reminder that there is value in walking your butt into a store that has a reputation to maintain rather than purchasing it over the web from people who don't care.
