NTP Takes Aim At Palm
Nov 6, 2006, 4:59 PM by (staff)
NTP today filed suit against Palm for patent infringement. The suit alleges that Palm manufacture and sale of the Treo violates NTP's patents for wireless email. Earlier this year NTP won a $612 million settlement from Blackberry manufacturer RIM for similar claims. While RIM produces and markets software that is in conflict with NTP's patents, Palm only includes third party wireless email software on the Treo. This could make NTP's claims against the company more difficult. NTP claims the company has rebuffed it's attempts to negotiate a settlement outside of court. Palm has not yet commented on NTP's suit.

Who ARE these guys? 😕 Next thing ya know, they'll be sending takedown notices to webmail sites, and annoucing they're suing over that too. 🙄

SOMEONE NEEDS TO TELL NTP TO EFF OFF
Right after RIM settled it was declared by the U.S. Patent office itself that NTPs patent claim was weak at best.

Patents 'R' Us - Rant
And on top of that, it obviously appears to be a get rich quick scheme now for NTP. If companies infringed upon NTP's intellectual property 6-7 years ago, why didn't they react then? Because if they waited for these other companies to establish the technology, and grow in profits, they could rake in more in the...
