Merger Approval Means Cingular Will Be Renamed AT&T
Jan 1, 2007, 10:03 PM by (staff)
The FCC approved the merger between BellSouth and the new AT&T (formerly SBC) last Friday. Immediately after the approval was announced, AT&T posted information on how the merger will affect its various businesses including Cingular. Cingular is a joint venture of AT&T and BellSouth. The company will begin to rebrand Cingular as AT&T in early 2007, however it might not call the service AT&T Wireless. AT&T has not announced any specifics about the change, except to explain that customers will be able to keep their current phones and calling plans, and that AT&T will offer bundles including wireless service in addition to wireline voice and data plans.

I like AT&T better, Cingular reminds me of a drug that causes headache, ear infection, sore throat, and upper respiratory infection.

Suggestion.
However, I also feel that the AT&T name and logo is too strong of a brand not to utilize.
I would suggest that AT&T keep the Cingular name for personal wireless services while the AT&T Business Solutions name be adhered to the business side.
And while we're splitting the difference, would it not make more sense to include "part of the AT&T family" at the end of Cingular advertising. We've already seen it done in most of their print ads anyway. This would cut the cost o...

Actually just kidding, I guess this name change was expected. Oh well. I will not miss seeing Cingualr or Cingalur in these forums. Now you can easily hold your SHIFT key down and type: AT&T. Very easy.
