Google Acquires Tenor to Improve GIF Search

Mar 27, 2018, 1:15 PM   by Eric M. Zeman

Google today said it has acquired Tenor, a GIF platform for Android, iOS, and desktop. Google says Tenor will continue to operate as a separate brand, but the search giant will integrate Tenor's content into Google Images. That means products that rely on Google Images, such as Gboard, will have access to more GIFs and other content for discovery and sharing. "With their deep library of content, Tenor surfaces the right GIFs in the moment so you can find the one that matches your mood," said Google. "We're looking forward to investing in their technology and relationships with content and API partners." Google didn't say how quickly Tenor's content will appear in Google Image results.
