Facebook Prepping 'Clear History' Tool

Facebook today said it is working on a feature that will let people effectively delete their browsing history, as far as Facebook is concerned. Clear History will let Facebook users "see the websites and apps that send us information when you use them, delete this information from your account, and turn off our ability to store it associated with your account going forward." As Facebook explains, apps and web sites pay attention to how people use Facebook and send that information to Facebook to help the social network improve its experience. The new Clear History tool will give people a bit more control over how that data is managed. Facebook says when people choose to clear their history it will "remove identifying information so a history of the web sites and apps you’ve used won’t be associated with your account." The company will, however, provide its partners apps and web sites with data it has already collected. The change, according to Facebook, is that it will no longer store the data when a person chooses to wipe away their history. The Clear History tool will take Facebook several months to build. It plans to work with privacy advocates, regulators, and others to ensure it takes the proper approach.
