Google today revealed new features headed to Google Photos. The application will soon be able do things such as automatically drop the color from the background of images and leave the subject in color. Google is using artificial intelligence to detect the subject and leave them in color while graying out everything else. Google says these will show up in the Assistant tab of Google Photos. Photos will also be able to add color to old black-and-white photos, and convert document images to PDFs. A new text-recognition tool should make Google Photos better at realizing what documents are and ensuring that they are editable. The app will also be more proactive at suggesting people brighten, share, rotate, or archive photos based on the subject. People will be able to tap the suggestions to complete the actions. Google says these features will arrive piecemeal over the next few months.
