Apple today said a host of new features are coming to its HomePod in-home speaker. Once the new software is available, HomePod owners will be able to search for songs by the lyrics. HomePod will gain support for multiple timers. The update introduces new support for making and receiving phone calls. People will need to call someone from their contact list or speak the number. Incoming calls can be directed from the iPhone to the HomePod if owners wish. HomePod gains a Find My iPhone feature so users can ping their iPhone. The HomePod will support Siri shortcuts, which let people personalize a series of tasks that become accessible with a single command. For example, saying "Hey Siri, good morning" can initiate a routine that turns on the lights, lists the first few calendar appointments, and then reads the latest headlines. Last, HomePod gains support for Spanish and Canadian French. Apple says this update will be pushed to the HomePod beginning September 17.
