SK Telecom: We're Not Acquiring Any U.S. Carriers

Directly addressing some misinformation that had been reported earlier this week, SK Telecom publicly said that it is not interested in purchasing a majority stake in any of the wireless network operators in the U.S. It did, however, confirm that it was exploring business and technology partnerships with Sprint.

FCC Adopts New Rules to Block Unwanted Robotexts and Robocalls

The FCC today formally adopted multiple new rules to fight spam and scam calls and texts. Wireless carriers will now be required to actively block text messages "that are highly likely to be illegal", including ones from phone numbers that cannot or do not send text messages.

AST Completes Voice Call via Satellite Using Regular Cell Phone

AST SpaceMobile has successfully completed a test of the first full two-way voice call using a standard, off-the-shelf cell phone connecting directly to a satellite in orbit (instead of to a land-based network.) Other recently-announced space connectivity solutions have focused only on messaging, not voice calls, and/or require new phones with added satellite technology. This test used an unmodified Samsung Galaxy S22 connecting directly to AST's BlueWalker 3 test satellite in orbit.

Didn't they also say they weren't in talks to sell Helio?

SK Telecom wants to merge Helio and VM. If this happens, SK Telecom could have the controlling interest in the new merged company. I don't think SK Telecom wants to buy one of the larger carriers.
