It's freaking 2008

I don't get it- international data roaming SHOULD cost something like $50.00 for unlimited (or $50.00 for say, ~ 1GB.) Are zeroes and ones that difficult to transmit?

BUT, keep in mind European telcos are way behind the US in terms of reasonable pricing. Providers like Vodafone, Orange, TeliaSonera, or Telefonica-Movistar usually charge a connection fee and/or a session fee, combined with a per-kilobyte fee that works on a dizzying different amount of tiers. The only decent one I ever used was Yoigo, and good luck finding someone who is willing to sell it.

This still stinks, but in reality 1cent/kilobyte is in many cases cheaper than what their OWN customers pay.
Hey, if iphone customers are willing to pay big bucks, they might as well charge high for data.

On the other hand, if european data plans are expensive, att has to pay them, which means charging the customers. Also, they need some profit for making...

3G outside of North America?

I thought the US iPhone only had the American 3G frequencies of 850 & 1900. Europe uses 3G on the 2100 band, which isn't totally compatible with our new AWS band, due to different uplink frequencies. The best people would get for speed is EDGE. I don't see this a bargain at all, but there are those that feel they need to have their phones with them, iPhone, or any other phone, and data or not.
It is basically a tri-band HSDPA phone, that has some software edits to limit it to that country's frequency. So you could roam on a foreign 3G network at 2100MHz.

I just don't get it......

who would want to use their phone for this kind of power usage? a laptop would be better suited.
never mind the above posting. My bad! I read it wrong.

News flash: international roaming costs a fortune

People are realizing what some of us have known all along. You can't leave the country and expect to use your phone the same as you do at home. You cannot do it.

International roaming costs a fortune. Always has, always will.

Is this a monthly charge or an as needed "bucket"?

For example... if I go to Europe and I buy 100 MB of data, but only use 50 MB, and then in 6 months go to Mexico... will I still have my remaining 50MB?
Ahahahahahaha, ahahahahahahaha, oh man...

Where do you guys come up with these pro-consumer ideas?
