HTC Announces GSM Phone With WiMax On Board

Today HTC announced the MAX 4G, a new mobile phone that is one of the first to include cellular and WiMax radios. The MAX 4G runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and has tri-band GSM/EDGE 900/1800/1900 radios, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, GPS and FM radio. It also carries a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and user-facing VGA camera, accelerometer and proximity sensors, and the TouchFLO 3D user interface. The MAX 4G will only be available in Russia on the Yota network. It is compatible with Yota Mobile's 2.5-2.7 GHz WiMax network. It has a 3.5mm headset jack and supports microSD cards up to 8GB.

Unless this is designed to work solely in the few cities that Xohm has deployed WiMAX, it won't sell. If Xohm were to sell a device, it would make sense...

Even the GSM portion does not cover GSM 850, which would kill for usability in North America.
