Today Google began offering a new version of the Nexus One for sale directly from its web site. The new version supports quad-band GSM/EDGE and tri-band 850/1900/2100MHz UMTS. The unlocked version of the Nexus One costs $529 and is compatible with AT&T's 3G network. It is not available with a contract from AT&T. The Google site lists that the device will be available from Verizon Wireless "soon."

I am loving this...

Google is doing everything I think the cellular industry needs. Instead of the service provider getting their hands messy in handsets, Google is selling their own handset and letting consumers decide. This is the future of wireless. No more upgrades or contracts. You buy your phone at full price and keep it until you can't use it anymore...just like everything else in the world.
Or until you find out it cant run the latest apps because Android 2.2 came out...

i think it's great as well...not to mention one could probably get away with a 10.00 unlim data plan. as it is an unlocked phone not branded to att, the billing system probably wont recognize it as a smart phone. so no 30.00 data plan.
...
why would I love this phone when if I decide to cancel after purchae, Google and ATT would charge me a cxl $ fee. No F**k Google, Nexus, and Att

Data Plan

I'm a little confused on the data plan because everyone keeps saying that a $10 plan is useable on this, but isn't this a smartphone? And how would this be possible then?

????

If anyones knows if At&t will bring technical support to this unit or google will do it... 🙄
It is a Google phone, not offered by ATT. It is like if you bought an unlocked phone and activated it.
...
That's a negative unless AT&T actually starts selling the phone.

What kind of tech support would you be looking for? Other than troubleshooting call quality, there isn't much they can do.

Warranty and everything would go through Google.

What about Sprint

Oh well I got hooked up and am loving the Samsung Moment at least! And sprint has the best deals of the contract players didnt know what I was missing with all the android apps.
If sprint puts the ESN's into their system, the verizon version should work for them (I hope sprint does this)

Because

the reason it is not available with a subsidized contract price is that in my opinion, AT&T would not allow Google to have the ability to do the contracts if they could not control it and fill it with their unnecessary apps.
You got that right, atleast for now. Besides AT&T will be getting the Desire, which is real nice, but lets see the bloat, lock down, yahooazation and other stuff.

Control, control, control! ! ! !

If I pay for something with my own money, I want it to be mine, and I don't want ATTs or amy carriers prints on on my property!
Also, if you get into a contact situation, the customer feels AT&T would have some responsibility if something went wrong. Similar to what happened when there was some question about the 3G performance on the TMobile version. Without the contract, AT&...
