In-depth review of LG's mainstream EV-DO phone for 2005.

The LG VX8100 is a great phone for those who demand the newest thing. Whether it's the latest full-stereo ring tone or the highlight from last night's football game. The VCAST video features make the 8100 indispensable for a those who like to be on the cusp of what's new, and who want to always be connected to the latest sports, entertainment, and information. The media access capabilities make it perfect for the hands of Hollywood teenagers and those aspiring to copy them.

Picture messaging

On my old picture phone, I was able to send three picture to my email account if I added three pages to a picture message, saving me money so I would only have to send one message instead of three. On this phone you can't do that.

Other than that, though. I love this phone.

8100 Not on Verizon Site

I just noticed that today the LG VX8100 was removed from the Verizon website. Don't tell me they are already going to replace it with the 8150 or something like that? LOL.

Usually when on of their phones is out of stock it says so (but they keep the phone on the site).

Anyone have a clue??
I was just wondering the same thing. I was about to place my order for the VX8100. Maybe it's just because they have the extra $20 off promotion (today, like several other days) so maybe they don't want that phone to get the discount? What's the next...

I saw that the other day when I was recomending the phone to a friend. It appears they have disscontinued the phone. I was kinda mad, It won't let you set up a VCAST account for the phone anymore via the website, I'm sure you could if you went to a lo...

Mobile Phone Screen Capture

I just read your review---incredibly thorough. Thanks for the great effort.

BTW, How did you do the screen captures? Digital Camera? I know there's a few apps for Nokia devices, but haven't found one for non-Nokia.

Good review

I got a VX8100 3 weeks ago too and I'd say your review is bang on. I got my from the local verizon store and it had a slip of paper in it proudly mentioning that the phone did have an MP3 player in it now. That really threw me because I completely expected it to have one and never for one moment thought it didn't!
Here's my take:

Reasonably nice to hold and handle, although the flip open angle is a little too snug for my liking. I like my phones to open flatter.
The speakers look like a big womans hips.
I was seriously tripped up bu the video recorder. I've been using a Sharp 903SH to video blog my travels around the world and half way through the intro to my spiel the LG stopped recording! I thought it was broken. It sure was a shock ...

6 tabs??

" The Verizon UI, love or hate it, is consistent. The main menu features six different tabs, each with no more than 10 elements per tab."

Are you positive there are 6 tabs? I count five, but hey, math was never my strong subject.

Anyway, nice review. Thanks for taking the time to get all of the information right... 😳
Ah, yes. And you haven't made a mistake once in your life, huh?

Six tabs, five tabs, not much difference. They have the more important parts right.

On site observations!

I'm currently working for a cellular company and see many phones on a daily basis with different problems. On the 8100, the only problems that I've seen with this phone is when it first came out. It didn't have the proper software for mp3 use. There was a lot of time spent upgrading phones that were in our inventory, which takes quite a bit of time. Very time consuming, but helped with the functions of the phone. Since then, this phone, in my opinion is with the money with all the features that the phone offers. I like the phone and I'm eager to see what is around the corner for phones as technology evolves daily.
