Today the New York Post reported that national electronics retailer Radioshack is exploring its future direction. Several options are on the table. One possibility is using the company's $900 million in cash to buy back shares. Another is seeking a merger with or acquisition by another electronics retailer. One name that came up as a possible candidate is Best Buy, which has been making a strong push in developing new opportunities. Best Buy has added dedicated floor space to Best Buy Mobile in its big box retail stores. Best Buy has been looking for a way to expand its mobile sales footprint, and believes that selling mobile devices is important to its future. One way it could to that is to acquire Radioshack and rebrand all Radioshack stores as Best Buy Mobile stores. Radioshack sales mobile devices and service plans from the top U.S. providers and recently began offering the Apple iPhone at all is stores.

THIS WOULD BE A DARK DAY FOR THE MOBILE INDUSTRY

Our company has the lowest prices around for Sprint & Boost and we still can't compete with Best Buy & Radio Shack selling phones with NO Mail in Rebate... This could just make things worse for us.

This is a disgrace and cell phone companies need to stop selling out to Big Box Retailers to sell their products.

I mean damn, I work at a Sprint Inderect Dealer and I am RadioShack's Customer Service anymore. They sell the device lower than ours coz no MIB and then send the customers over here to fix their mistakes and change contacts and all that other stuff. It is really starting to piss me off and I wanna leave the wireless industry or start getting paid by Radio Shack and Best Buy.
lol, i used to work for a company like yours. yea, you should make a move. but i do wish we had a cellbrite machine.
The only reason why my store sends our customers to spring is beccause a.) we do not have a celebrite machine or b.) their phone is broke and we cannot fix it. We never mess with ppl's bills like ur stores do beccause u guys get comission.

Goodbye "The Shack"

I loved radioshack years ago when they provided a useful somewhat unique venue to purchased radio and electronic components at many local stores nationwide. Over the last few years, they became just another cellphone reseller with nothing to distinguish them in the marketplace. The even changed there name to simply "The shack". I see no need for these "radioshack" cellphone retail shops, I can get my cellphone anywhere.
now i have to travel to frys for all my resistors and leds? 😲
i think its funny that 1 company that cant run a wireless department is buying another company just for its wireless department. radio shack has to be one of the worst resellers. the majority of them know nothing about what they are selling and rely...

More then likely, if bestbuy DOES buy out radioshack, it's gonna be for thier bestbuy mobile venture. I still think it's a bad idea for both parties, but I'm sure that the higher ups are looking to buy a new yacht, and best buy is tired of losing the ...

i think i'm going to be sick

😕

this sucks

i love the shack!

tons of great stuff with great employees and great prices!

Don't give up!

Try new advertising!

Hell, Try anything!
their prices are sub-par at best. they should have gone under years ago

I used to work there, and when I was at the Shack, I was hoping that they would get bought out. One of the frustrating things for me in a rural area was that they would advertise all this stuff, like ipods when they first launched, and the company did...

I dont understand?????

I haven't gotten any indication that radioshack was suffering, where did this come from?
The management team has the history of fixing a broken retailer and then selling them off and moving on.
we are not. we are growing. except for battery and power supplies sales. but that is becuase of the focus on wireless.

Best Shack?

The problem here is the Block Buster Model. You go to a Block Buster and the kid behind the counter knows nothing about movies... or even the product in the store. The Radio Shack employees (when they choose to help you) are the same. Best Buy, on the other hand, has great employee training and someone is always eager to assist you. So when Radio Shack becomes Best Shack or whatever, it will be interesting to see if they employees raise their game.
whoa whoa whoa! some 4,000 stores and we are all idiots? whatch your assumptions sir. there are many idoits, sharks, nerds, and sleezy salesmen. i will give you that. but there are also PEOPLE that care. i try to. i know im not the perfect employee, ...

Okay. I will say that not all Radio Shack stores are bursting at the seams with intellegent, well spoken associates. But I will say that neither is Best Buy. From my honest experience of working in a mall with Best Buy in it, we get ridiculous amounts...

why all the hate?

if radioshack was so bad, why would the biggest electronics retailer in the country want them? hate us all you want but our business model is working and well in this slow economy. matter of fact, most of our stores are growing in most areas. and the management is being very responsible with the money. no risks needed. so cash, coming out of the pockets with grwoth in a slow economy... whats not to love? i just dont want to see radio shack turned into wireless store for best buy. bad enough they are making us wear polos and jeans soon.

If Best Buy and Radio Shack merge....

...then their employees will not know twice as much about their products.

🤣
nah, often you can find the products radio shack carries in best buy except the generics stuff. same high end cables, laptop chargers, phones, laptops, routers, etc. just usually a smaller selection. and the bestbuy employees usually specialize in one...

It hasn't happened yet

These reports are a few months old. First it was Apollo Management now Best Buy. It wold have to be a merger since Best Buy probably does not have the money for an acquisition of this size without putting themselves in a bad way.

Maybe nothing will happen and maybe these reports are reliable. Time will tell.
