Apple Intros WebKit2
Apr 9, 2010, 7:23 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Apple recently announced WebKit2, a new framework for its web browsing technology. Apple says of WebKit2, "WebKit2 is designed to support a split process model, where the web content (JavaScript, HTML, layout, etc.) lives in a separate process. This model is similar to what Google Chrome offers, with the major difference being that we have built the process split model directly into the framework, allowing other clients to use it." Apple's WebKit technology has become widespread across the mobile space, and is used in the iPhone's Safari browser, the Android browser, and Nokia's S60 browser. This new version of WebKit could lead to significant changes in the way mobile browsers behave. Apple has made the open source code available to developers on both the Mac and Windows platforms.
