Mobile TV Coming to D.C. for the Summer

The Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC) will be showcasing the new Mobile DTV broadcast technology be running a trial in the Washington, D.C. area this summer. The showcase will begin on May 3 when nine area stations start broadcasting content for Mobile DTV-enabled devices. The trial will end at the close of summer. Among the devices that will receive the new service are a specially equipped, non-commercial version of the Samsung Moment Android smartphone, a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook, a Mobile DTV / DVD player from LG and a Tivizen device from Valups, capable of retransmitting Mobile DTV signals as Wi-Fi to devices like the Apple iPhone and iPad. Devices will be distributed by the OMVC. Programming will encompass a range of network and basic cable options, including local NBC and CBS broadcasts, local Fox and Fox News shows, as well as programs from MSNBC, CNBC and PBS.

I so, so much hope this becomes standard industry wide. These smartphones now a days have 3.5/3.7in screens, just fine for watching loacal broadcasts.
