Skype today indicated that, contrary to what was originally listed in the application's description, Skype for iPhone 2.0 will allow free Skype-to-Skype until the end of 2010. A Skype spokesperson said in an email to Phone Scoop, "When the app was originally submitted to Apple, Skype intended to determine pricing options by the end of August. Since submitting the app, they decided to extend this period until the end of 2010 to ensure the pricing options will be in line with customers’ expectations." Skype-to-Skype calls have always been free. When asked why Skype decided to start charging for this feature, it explained, "Offering certain product features on a paid-for basis allows Skype to continue to invest in developing the innovative products that its users are constantly asking for. Skype knows its users expect great value from its paid products and believes the 3G calling capability delivers that. However, Skype is also committed to ensuring that the pricing for 3G calling on the iPhone will be in line with customers’ expectations." Skype said that Skype-to-Skype pricing has not been determined yet, and will be announced later this year. Skype-to-Skype calls will still be free via Wi-Fi.
