FCC Poking Around for Big LEO Airwaves

As part of its plan to recover some 500MHz of spectrum for mobile broadband use, the Federal Communications Commission has opened up comment on what to do with the Big LEO band of spectrum. This 35MHz patch of spectrum, which rests between 1675MHz and 1710MHz, is currently used for weather balloons and satellites. The FCC would like to reclaim this spectrum and redirect the weather balloon and satellite broadcasts to wireline networks. The FCC is accepting comments on this proposal until June 28.

We'll take this away from you....

....and make you lease it back from a random private company so they can profit!

I bet the "Big LEO" weather balloon lobby will be drowned out by others who would be more than pleased to yank it away from them.
