T-Mobile App Keeps Android Phones Running Smoothly

T-Mobile's My Account application for Android phones has long gone beyond simple billing and account information to offering in-phone features like power management controls. Now the My Account app will also close unused services on the device. The task killer software, called Device Tune-up, will run in the background at startup. It will work on phones running Android 2.1 or below, so users who have ported Android 2.2 or who are running a custom ROM should not use the software.

This is a problem and it illustrates what I consider to be the reason Android won't last...
Let me break it down like this:
T-Mobile is looking to enhance the user experience for their Android customers , but by doing so they're installing software that is going beyond its necessary functionality and providing useful tools that modify system behavior. (Honestly, folks, iOS4 and WebOS 1.4 don't need this kind of crap... and I think no decent mobile OS should.)
