Nokia Siemens and Nokia Make LTE Data Call via 800MHz
Jul 2, 2010, 9:00 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Nokia Siemens Networks and Nokia announced the first successful completion of a data call over Long Term Evolution through the 800MHz spectrum. The test was completed using commercially available equipment at Nokia's labs in Espoo, Finland. Nokia Siemens Networks and Nokia have completed similar test in the 2100MHz and 2600MHz bands. The 800MHz band is specifically being made available to LTE across Europe as television broadcasters vacate it. The 800MHz band has good signal propagation characteristics, travels far, and penetrates buildings well. In the U.S., AT&T and Verizon Wireless will each use portions of the 700MHz band for their LTE networks.

Can't the World Agree on 1 frequency that's not even out yet ??
First, they disagree on using metric or english systems. Then they choose to use different voltages. And if that wasn't enough, the powers that be thought that using different TV network was a good idea too ( PAL vs NTSC).
They need to make a law that would prohibit devices that are not cross compatible with other regions. TVs, Blu-rays, mobile phones, etc need to work everywhere. This would significantly help reduce waste. Don't like your 30" tv, plan on getting an 80' tv. Wonderful. The folks in New Delhi or Dar es Salam would love to have your stuff.

Seriously, how many different/incompatible network bands do we need ? Can't they find 1 or 2 bands that are not being used and agree to standardize things globally.

What about the AWS 1700 band?
T-Mobile also has AWS spectrum, and plenty of it. I am not sure if they have enough to do 3G, and LTE at the same time.

AT&T and Verizon both have AWS spectrum, which doesn't compare to the 700MHz spectrum they bought, but still.
