Patent holding company NTP has sued a number of mobile phone makers claiming they are in violation of its mobile email patents. NTP filed the lawsuit in Virginia on Thursday, naming Apple, Google, Microsoft, HTC, LG and Motorola. NTP claims that work done by Thomas J. Campana Jr. laid the foundation for wireless email systems over a decade ago. The company was awarded patents related to wireless email in the 90s, but it never commercialized its software. NTP's business model is to hold technology patents and license them out or sue infringers. NTP was awarded $612.5 million in a settlement against Research In Motion, which it fought in court for years over wireless email patents. RIM now licenses NTP's patents as part of the settlement. None of the new companies named by NTP have responded to the lawsuit.

So.... Lebron going to Miami...
What do my fellow nerdy phones peeps think of that...? ๐
Makes me sad cause Chicago or Detroit would've benefited from his skill, oh well. Cynthia Bang is probably rollerblading around town and Lebron is probably lucky enough to run into her. ๐
I would be willing to bet anything that one of those 3 will get hurt and be out the whole season.
๐ก pretty bummed about that...
I'm very saddened to see him leave Cleveland like this, I still can't believe it. LeBron was my favorite player and he let everyone down with the mindset that he'll never win a ring for the Cavs. This on top of the Lakers repeating has made the NBA de...

I thought Cleveland needed a championship but after so many years you could see the frustration on Lebrons face from everyone trying to count only on him. It was probably more stressful than fun. At least in Miami with Wade and Bosh he won't feel as m...

๐ฟ its not that he left.. lets get that noted...its how he left. he knows how we, as fellow clevelanders have been constantly let down and crushed in sports. And he was to do that on national tv.....come on.... ๐
Hrmm
Apple + Google + Microsoft < NTP ?
NTPs 'business model' sure has a lot of balls to take on all those companies (and others) on what i'm speculating are fairly shakey grounds. I'm actually on the big guys side on this one ๐คจ

Now this...
...is one patent issue I don't agree with.
'NTP's business model is to hold technology patents and license them out or sue infringers.'
You gotta be kidding me. That just stifles the market.
i hate..
companies that do this. Isn't there some law that says if they arent actively using their technology they lose the right to sue companies who are trying to be productive with it?? If not there should be. Doesn't seem like "wait to sue" should be a legitimate business model.
No there is no such law. You are confusing a patent with a trademark. A trademark holder can lose the trademark if they don't use it.
I hope your wrong. I got a patent on shoes that can withstand speeds up to 100 mph, so as soon as evolution catches up I'm gonna be rich!
NTP - a "patent-holding" company without a website...
๐
well...
With precedence in place, this should be much quicker and more lucrative for them than it was when they faced off against RIM.
