Apple Distributes iOS 4.0.1 to Fix Antenna Software
Jul 15, 2010, 1:20 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Apple has made a new version of iOS 4 available for iPhone users. iOS 4.0.1, which can be downloaded through iTunes, "improves the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength to display." Apple doesn't say that the update fixes the antenna attenuation situation.

3) Verizon has smartphone users, not as much as ATT but they have quite a few.
4) CDMA and GSM operate differently for data, so no, the resul...

At least they are doing the update before 30 days.
A lot of people speculated that Apple was going to wait until after the initial 30 day return period before releasing this "fix" and I'm glad they didn't. No one will be stuck with a phone they really don't want.
I'm updating mine right now, I'll let you know if I see anything different.
Careful could brick your phone!
Update Impressions on an iPhone 4:
The best thing I can compare it to is it reads out like your typical CDMA phone (Palm Pre for reference) , as opposed to the typical GSM *always 5 bars* readout.
2) The readout is much more consistent. Most GSM phones used to be schizophrenic, dropping down to 1 bar where I live. Now averaging 2-3 bars is pretty consistent.
3) No it doesn't solve the attenuation issue. But it will likely solve the issue of people seeing 5 bars drop to nothing. You'll lose about 2 bars of service holding it there. With 3 bars I had to hold it pretty diligently and I dropped to 1 bar (...

Purely cosmetic update
I wonder what else they put in there.
ATT shoulds drop the idiotPhone!
Detailed analysis of what this does:
I'll have this update shortly. I'm curious to see how it changes the indicated reception where I've taken the phone.
I'll test it with and without the case to see if real world signal performance matches up.

Just masking the problem
I tried to get her to buy an Android phone but she thinks the new iphone is 'pretty'. *sigh*
I'm curious to see what Apple announces tomorrow at 1:00PM EST. I hope for a recall and a new model with a protected rim. Whatever it is, I always disliked Apple and the iphone because of their walled garden approach. With a company large, I'm surprised the antenna issue made it into the production version. Shame!

Apple is simply masking the problem with this patch. My wife is having serious issues with the phone's reception (just the way she holds it - and it's habit and hard to change) and is basically just using a Bluetoo

JIT for their conference lol
I thought 4.1 was coming out? Maybe 4.0.1 will change the bars and 4.1 will (supposedly) 😛 fix the signal issue that we all KNOW is hardware based 🤣
