LG CEO Hangs Up Due to Smartphone Problems

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that LG Electronics' CEO, Nam Yong, has resigned and will be replaced by Koo Bon-joon, a member of the founding family of the larger LG business. One of the reasons cited for Nam's departure is LG's failure to reforge and revitalize its smartphone business. LG offers several Android-based handsets in the U.S., and has announced that Windows Phone 7 devices are due to hit the market later this year. LG has not been as successful as rivals HTC, Motorola, and Samsung at adapting to the market's shift toward smartphones.
