Verizon Wireless has announced the addition of an application called Mobile Recovery to its Total Equipment Coverage program. Mobile Recovery is a phone- and web-based application that customers can use to secure or find a missing or lost phone. With Mobile Recovery, customers can have their phone sound an alarm. This can be used to locate the phone if it is nearby, even when the ringer is turned off. The application can be used to locate a phone through the web. As long as the phone is powered on and under Verizon's coverage, Mobile Recovery will use GPS to locate the phone, as well as provide maps and directions to its location. Last, the application also gives customers the option of remotely lock their phone or remotely wipe their phone. Verizon says that if users are unable to locate their lost or missing phone through Mobile Recovery, they may file a claim and get next-day delivery on a replacement device. Verizon reminds users that they can use its Backup Assistant program to retrieve contacts, settings, and applications that were downloaded to the lost device. Verizon also warns that users should not go after a phone that is located in an area that may be unsafe. Mobile Recovery is provided to Verizon's Total Equipment Coverage customers at no extra cost.
