Verizon to Introduce Tiered Pricing in 4 to 6 Months

Speaking to investors on Thursday, Verizon Communications CEO Ivan Seidenberg said that the company plans to introduce tiered pricing for its wireless data services within four to six months. Verizon has long implied that it will bring tiered pricing to market with the launch of its Long Term Evolution network. It is unclear if tiered pricing would also affect its CDMA 3G network. AT&T introduced tiered pricing plans for its smartphones earlier this year. Seidenberg said, "We didn't need to be first on tiered pricing. We're not sure we agree yet with how [AT&T] valued the data." He indicated that Verizon's pricing structure for data would be different from AT&T's.

This is likely due to the iPhone coming to Verizon
Why else? Stick the iPhone on any carrier and they will double their network traffic. SO regulate it with tiered pricing.

i'm really considering getting a dumb phone eventually. i'm so tired of these goofy games they play with data/plans/devices. it's not worth it. tiered pricing is just as low as you get in my book. they create a false shortage like gasoline to justify all the price hikes and reasons to pull away stuff like unlimited data. whats next? tiered night and weekend minutes instead of unlimited? where are the regulations to prevent this type of consumer abuse. ooooooh thats right. there is none (corporate slaves begin your rants here...)

Well, I'm not going to rant, and I don't agree with all of your post and I do understand that companies have to make money. But I am considering going back to a dumb phone myself. As much as I love Android, it has its faults and I can get much cheaper...

My prediction (because predictions are like armpits?)
4g devices will be tiered out the gate, but it's not going to be the crazy small caps people are thinking. At the same time, I think that they'll share this cap across 3g/4 access but because of this, there won't be a signifigant price increase.
So something like (aircards)
5gb 3g/4g= $30
25gb 3g/4g= $50
(Remember, this still won't be a "primary" internet)
Per GB overage rate of something less than $10/GB
For 3g I don't see it really changing that much, with the possible exception of them making a lower tier smartphone plan. (Remember the BGR rumor about 3gMM phones going the way of the dodo, this would fit in nicely)
So maybe: $15/mo for 500mb/1gb?
If they do put a "cap" on 3g, I don't see it being lower than 5gb

I can't see them cutting the cost of 3G aircard service in half.
If I had to guess I'd say it'd be more like:
250 MB - $15/mo | 1 GB - $30/mo | 5 GB - $60/mo | 10 GB - $100/mo

Having read into what they're saying hopefully it's higher caps and not as costly for overage.
Even a jump from the 200mb/2gb/~.25 per MB (tethering package) to, say, 500mb/5gb/$10 per GB would seem a bit more reasonable.

Doesn't bother me--
--I'll just add on, say, the $15 data plan and have what I need. It's better than $30, and NO, I don't care about the cost analysis breakdown.
