Today at its developer conference in San Francisco, Research In Motion announced a new platform for developers that will allow them to integrate RIM's BlackBerry Messenger platform into their own web sites, applications and services. Along with the new platform, RIM introduced all the developer tools needed to create this integration. The core capabilities will allow developers to integrate with the on-device contact list, allowing users to choose from their BBM contacts from within another application in order to initiate social interactions such as chatting or initiating game play. Apps can also allow users to add their own status updates to BBM from within another application. It allows users to transfer media back and forth — such as music, video, and photo files — with members of the BBM contact lists. It also allows users to invite new friends and access friend requests all from within a third-party application. RIM hasn't said when the new service will be available to end users, nor how it will be managed from the handset.

BBM on other OS?

So if I'm reading this correctly, you could possibly download an app on an Android phone and be able to communicate with your friends on BBM?
