Samsung Spring Preview

Intro U.S. Overseas Comments  24

Mar 6, 2006, 2:47 AM   by Rich Brome   @richbrome

Preview of Samsung's spring U.S. lineup, including the T719, P857, D407, T609, X507, plus bonus galleries from 3GSM.

Samsung had a pretty impressive array of phones on display at the 3GSM trade show last month. We showed you most of them in our event coverage at the time, but there were plenty of other models that we didn't have time to write about back then, that are still worth sharing.

We also stopped by the "Samsung Experience" showroom in New York City last week and got a peek at some new phones for the U.S. that the company is quietly starting to show off. If you're not lucky enough to attend a trade show like CES or CTIA, the Samsung Experience is usually your next-best bet for getting hands-on time with some of the latest new Samsung phones, including some cutting-edge Korean and European models, and a few U.S. models that aren't in stores yet. The Samsung Experience is located in the new Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle.

The following pages include highlights from both places, broken down by U.S.-bound and overseas models.

t719 and Blackberry-Connect

I was just wondering since I will be getting the 719 once it comes out. Will I need to add the blackberry service to my plan to take advantage of the Blackberry-Connect??

Thanks
Yes, you'll need the TMo BB email service.

Where are the CDMA Sammys?

Rich,
Was there anything at all from samsung for CDMA? It would seem that after 3GSM, most of the GSM displays had been made (though it seems a few tricks were still up their sleeve). Where is the focus on (american bound) CDMA? I know Samsung has a strong relationship with Verizon and a pretty decent one with Sprint as well. I gotta feel somewhat disappointed that this Korean manufacturer had nothing interesting to show for us code-divided people.
They did just show off the A930 at CES:

I'm certain Samsung will have much more CDMA goodness to show us at CTIA in a month.

Carriers

😕
Does anyone know what carriers will these phones be with? Like the Samsung Z560?
Z560: Not for the U.S. ☚ī¸ That's why it's in the "Overseas" section. 😉

hey rich or eric is the P857 3g?

i read the article don't see it anywhere or maybe i'm just overlooking it.

is the P857 3G?
No. Most (if not all) of Samsung's 3G phones so far have model numbers like SGH-Zxxx. No "Z" means no 3G.

I am bummed that non of the US bound phones are UMA enabled?

When will this actually arrive?
The T709 is a UMA phone. We covered that at CES in January:

T609 - FM reciever? A2DP? When?

Three questions regarding the T609... is there an FM radio receiver in this handset?

Does the phone support music transmission over BT (i.e. A2DP)?

Third question... any idea when T-Mobile might start selling this phone?

Question about cingular's 3G

Looks like its finally out but the lg and the samsung are both lack luster in features and design. Is the Samsung P857 going to be 3g cause i love the way the phone looks and is worth being on cingulars 3g network. I am a loyal cingular user but right now they are getting crappy phone and extremly delayed times. Same go's for the push to talk.
um sorry if this is a dumb question but...
whats 3g?
...
No, I don't think the P857 will be 3G.

While I'm disappointed with Cingular's initial 3G lineup as well, their 2G phone selection is actually one of the biggest and most varied ever offered by a U.S. carrier.

where's the WOW factor?

I'm not very impressed with what Samsung is offering this spring. I would expect something with orginality and feature packed. We need to bring the Samsung phones that I saw in Korea last month over to the US, but unfortunatley that won't happen anytime soon.
This is only a partial preview. We'll see more announced later this week as CeBIT gears up, and even more next month at CTIA.
