Verizon Wireless will launch its LTE network on December 5 in 38 markets, covering 60 major airports and 110 million potential customers. The carrier plans to blanket its entire nationwide 3G coverage area with LTE service by the end of 2013. Initially, the network will be available on two USB modems, the LG VL600 and the Pantech UML290, which will each cost $150. A $50 rebate is available with a 2-year agreement. Data plans will be available at $50 for monthly access with a 5GB cap, or for $80 with a 10GB monthly cap, and users will pay $10 per GB if the cap is exceeded. The company claims customers will see a speed boost of up to 10X over current 3G technology, with download speeds in the 5-12 Mbps range, up from current speeds in the 0.6-1.4 Mbps range on its 3G network. Both of the new USB modems will also be compatible with the older network for when the user is out of the LTE coverage area. The company expects to launch consumer-oriented handset devices in mid-2011.

WHAT A RIP OFF!!!

Sprint sell's their 3G/4G aircards with unlimited 4G for $59.99. No cap!!! Maybe Verizon's LTE will be a little bit faster, but from first hand experience, Sprint's 4G speeds are fast enough for PS3 online gaming with no lag at all...not to mention I'm sure gaming online uses tons of memory...last thing I'd wanna do is pay $10 for every extra gig of memory used...If Verizon actually cared about their customer's, they wouldn't charge an arm and a leg for a "capped" data service. 😕
Oh wait. They don't.

Sprint's GAINING customers for the first time in years and they're still LOSING money. Clear is quickly running out of funds which will grind WiMax expansion to a halt really fast.

Verizon's not competing with Sprint here....

Yet again, the buzz word. 4G! Not impressed

So who is getting tired of hearing these companies claiming to have 4G? It's all just a marketing ploy and the real fans know this is a really SLOW 4G Speed, 5-12mpbs. The day we get to 100mpbs, that will be truly impressive and that company deserves to call its network True 4G!
It IS 4G. This is the 4th generation of technology in the states. And seriously...100 on a cellular network? 5-12 is what you get on hard-line services! I think that's a pretty damn good number for a CELLULAR NETWORK. You guys are insane and will neve...

Monthly pricing

Am I reading the pricing right? No extra monthly pricing for 4G?

And December 5th is also my birthday. I'm sure VZW planed that on purpose. 🙂
Sprint doesn't charge extra and 4G is UNLIMITED.

If you don't need 4G speeds, why not get a Virgin Mobile 3G plan for $40? That's what I'm on and it's more than fast enough for my needs.

More Verizon rip offs no surprise

Stick with Sprint!! Even if I needed or wanted there "4g" its still way better deal for the ten bucks only extra. For now wifi works fine for me if needed instead. Anyway no surprise from big red with there inflated rates
You're talking about a smartphone plan. These are aircard plans.

Their prices are exactly what they're currently charging for 3g.

that's not inflated pricing.

Even when they get phones...

Battery life is gonna suck hard.
we don't know what it will do to batteries. Remember, this is on a lower band, so it's a much stronger/broader signal. Not to mention that chip makers are spending a lot of money optimizing their mobile chips.

For a phone 50.00 or 80.00 is

Waayyy too high...I don't care what speed it is...I will stick with 3G..I'm happy with 3G speed...I will wait for cost to go down for LTE plans..wow... 🤨 ..I have at&t...I will see what kind of LTE plans they come up with when they launch LTE the next 2 years...
Not phones.

Seriously guys.. It's in the press release.
