Word Lens Uses the iPhone Camera to Translate

Quest Visual has released an app for the iPhone that offers live translation of text using the iPhone camera. With Word Lens, the user aims the camera at a sign or printed text, and the app automatically recognizes the text and translates it. The app attempts to retain the same font size and color, as well, making the translated text appear more seamless with the surrounding scene. While the app is a free download, users must pay for translation from English to Spanish or vice versa. The free demo will only change words into backwards text or erase words from view, as a tech demonstration. The product is still in an imperfect, rudimentary stage, but it does demonstrate unique capabilities for future translation technology.
