AT&T today announced that it has agreed to purchase 700MHz spectrum from Qualcomm for $1.92 billion. The spectrum in question is 12MHz in the D and E blocks that covers 70 million people in the top five U.S. markets, including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, L.A. and San Francisco. An additional 6MHz in the D block covers another 230 million people across the rest of the country, making a total of 300 million POPs covered.
