Lightsquared today announced that it and business partner Inmarsat are moving into phase two of their plan to build out a national LTE-based wireless broadband network. Under the terms of the agreement between the two companies, Inmarsat will give Lightsquared the use of up to 59 MHz of terrestrial and L-Band ATC spectrum over the U.S. and Canada. Lightsquared will pay Inmarset $115 million per year to use the spectrum. Earlier this week, the FCC gave Lightsquared permission to use the L-Band spectrum for cellular-only communications.
