Alltel today announced the availability of the Samsung Gem, a bar-style Android device that runs 2.1 Eclair and has a 3.2-inch touch display with WQVGA resolution and scratch/smudge protection. The Gem, which was revealed by Samsung in January, also has GPS, Wi-Fi, a 3.2 megapixel camera, an 800MHz processor, Swype software and Samsung's Social Hub. The Gem will be free to Alltel customers after a $50 rebate with a new two-year commitment.
