Live from the official announcement of the Optimus 3D, and possibly other LG phones.

Liveblog

Feb 14, 2011, 5:51 AM: That's a wrap! Look for our hands-on with the Optimus 3D in a few minutes.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:46 AM: Now talking about YouTube exclusivity, just acknowledging there is some.... Some YouTube 3D features will only be available on LG phones for some time, but they can't say which features or for how long.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:44 AM: Optimus 3D is powered by OMAP 4, chip model 4430. Optimus Pad is powered by nVidia Tegra 8020.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:43 AM: ...on the Optimus 3D, that is.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:42 AM: A question was asked about resolution. 3D video is captured in 720p HD, 2D video can be captured in 1080p HD!

Feb 14, 2011, 5:38 AM: Prepared remarks over. Q&A time.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:38 AM: All of those apps look very nice, by the way.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:37 AM: Demo-ing YouTube, Google e-book reader, and Google Talk, including text chat and video chat.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:35 AM: 8.9-inch display, dual-core, 3D camera. Claimed to be thinner and lighter than competition, which seems to be Galaxy Tab, although they don't call it out by name.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:34 AM: Optimus Pad runs Android 3, obviously.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:29 AM: Making fun of the Galaxy Tab for being too small, and the iPad for being too big.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:28 AM: Now talking about the Optimus Pad.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:28 AM: (They didn't mention it on stage for some reason, but we found out from the LG booth reps that the YouTube partnership is exclusive to LG for a few months, 3-6... they wouldn't specify exactly.)

Feb 14, 2011, 5:26 AM: A dedicated 3D button on the side brings up a special 3D hub leading you to 3D video content, camera, and 3D games, three pre-loaded games from Gameloft.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:26 AM: The YouTube guy didn't share any new details.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:24 AM: Partnership with YouTube for seamless 3D video uploading. Also 3D video viewing from YouTube. YouTube executive now getting on stage.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:23 AM: Has HDMI 1.4 output for connecting directly to a 3D TV.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:23 AM: Talking now about the 3D camera. The viewfinder is 3D in real-time, and lets you adjust 3D depth effect with on-screen controls as you record.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:20 AM: They are playing the absolute goofiest promo videos. It's like a real-life version of bad anime. I hope for LG's sake they don't air these on US television.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:17 AM: Talking about speed of dual-core processor plus dual-channel architecture. Good benchmarks (although we conveniently can't read the names of the phones they're comparing against.) A video demo of faster web browsing.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:14 AM: More features: HDMI TV output, DLNA wireless video streaming.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:14 AM: 4.3-inch display, 3D video capturing and sharing to YouTube.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:13 AM: Optimus 3D has not just a 3D display, but "three Ds": dual-core, dual-memory, dual channel.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:12 AM: Talking about the benefits of dual-core processors, including HD video, better gaming, and faster web browsing.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:10 AM: Talking now about the Optimus Pad tablet.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:09 AM: Few details from the CEO on the Optimus 3D, more details in a minute from the product manager.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:07 AM: Here it is, the Optimus 3D, the first global smartphone with a true glasses-free 3D display.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:06 AM: Reviewing Optimus 2X with multi-core, and Optimus Black with better display.

Feb 14, 2011, 5:04 AM: The press conference just started.

Carriers?

Did they not mention which carrier(s) we can expect these devices to appear on?

I believe the Optimus 2X & 3D are GSM devices...but, did they mention if there will be any CDMA variants?
That's not something companies usually talk about at an event like this.

LG isn't known for bringing their flagship phones to the US market. That may change, but I would guess they'll have a different name, at least, the way the Optimus Pad is call...
