Alltel Launches Four Android Handsets

Alltel Wireless today announced the immediate availability of four new smartphones, all of which run Google's Android operating system. The handsets are the LG Axis, Samsung Gem, HTC Merge, and Motorola Milestone X. Alltel didn't provide pricing details for the handsets.

Alltel still exists??

I thought verizon acquired alltel... ??
"In early 2009, Verizon Wireless acquired Alltel, although the Alltel brand will remain until it is gradually phased out through the middle of 2009. "

Well, it is now almost the middle of 2011... *scratching my head*..

Verizon purchased Alltel, to win government approval, they offered to divest 104 markets. 79 of these markets went to at&t and the other 26 went to Atlantic Tel-Network. Altantic then purchased the rights to the 'Alltel' brand name and now operates...

Yes they do

Not saying they are huge or anything, but last I saw they had around 1 million wireless subscribers in the US. But they parent company runs networks in numerous countries, I know in the Caribbean and I think South America.

I know they just started working on 4G for the Navajo Nation.

It's a real company. Not the just the remnants that will be disappearing after a set amount of time is up. They own the Altell name now.
